Business Development Associate

The Business Development Associate is responsible for supporting the President and the VP of Sales by tracking, investigating, and reporting sales information across all sales channels and other duties as assigned to further assist the efforts of the sales department. They also identify and help develop strategic relationships with partners or potential customers and assist in the development of a strong pipeline of new customers and projects in accounts through direct or indirect customer contact and prospecting. The Business Development Associate works with marketing, sales, and product development teams to implement business development initiatives.

Reporting to the Vice President of Sales, principal accountabilities for the Business Development Associate are:

Sales Channel & Account Management

  • Update & maintain, with the assistance of the VP of Sales, BDI training program manual

  • Manage VIR program documentation & program updates across the different sales channels

  • Manage & document sales representative commission structure associated with different programs and channels

  • Understand the different available price levels and evaluate customer performance to determine if they are underperforming or eligible for performance based discounts

  • Manage & analyze retail floor inventories

  • Source prospects in all sales channels and distribute to sales team

  • Coordinate and assist development of Trade business

  • Assist development and coordination of structured corporate sales program and materials for use at retail

Sales & Service Activities

  • Review E-Commerce websites for pricing errors and product placement

  • Review dealer locator and validate eligibility

  • FileMaker Pro contact management & updating

  • New customer set up process tracking

  • Assist with semi-annual High Point Market

    • Show preparation & planning

    • Show set up & break down

    • Work with customers as needed

    • Other duties as needed at market

Marketing & Promotional Activities

  • Discretionary fund tracking

    • Advertising co/op

    • Customer sale periods

    • Special customer ad programs

  • Work with Marketing Department to help manage RepZio and maximize its potential use

  • Yearly Promotion participation & results tracking

Reporting

  • Report preparation for President, VP, and sales team

  • Sales Budget – track & communicate monthly updates to VP/reps

  • Manage and issue market attendance & prospect reports

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of prior sales assistance or related experience, including experience in a small to medium sized entrepreneurial company.

  • Possess exceptional written skills and can clearly communicate in all mediums.

  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage complex projects

  • Knowledge of general office software, including, but not limited to Microsoft Office; should possess excellent skills in Microsoft Excel & Microsoft PowerPoint

Office Location

  • This position is based at the corporate offices in Chantilly, VA

Travel Requirements

  • This position requires some travel, including, but not limited to:

    • Twice a year to High Point Furniture Market (7-10 days each April & October)

    • 2-3 customer visits per year (3-5 days per trip)

    • Other trade shows as needed

Other Attributes

  • Language: While not a prerequisite, having the ability to speak Spanish, French, or German would be desirable.
