Executive Summary
At BDI, you'll find a collection of furniture pieces that are beautifully designed, incredibly engineered and remarkably functional. We incorporate thoughtful details that seamlessly integrate technology into the home. BDI’s design driven culture focuses on developing furnishings that inspire and wow.
As our Director of Marketing, you will create a strategic marketing plan to wisely allocate our seven figure annual marketing budget. You will decide how much to focus on trade shows, advertising campaigns, web presence, in-store Point of Purchase displays, sales brochures, and other strategies to build brand awareness. You’ll help chart our expansion into international markets, office furnishings, and additional areas.
We are highly regarded by our dealer network for providing great design, high quality products, innovation and unparalleled dealer support. You will further strengthen this relationship by developing our dealer portal, and providing our channel partners with up-to- date product information, inventory and order status.
We also want you to expand our engagement with consumers. You will lead our social media efforts and play a key role in the development of a new BDI website.
In this role, you will report to the President, and manage a small marketing team.
Goals for Your First Year as the Director of Marketing
- Strategy: Provide a clear strategy for marketing efforts including all segments in both the U.S. and international markets. Find new and innovative ways to build BDI’s brand, increase brand awareness and develop new markets
- Website: Draw significantly more traffic to our website through social media and other methods. The new website will tell the BDI story by providing a compelling experience for consumers. The expanded dealer portal will provide comprehensive support to our dealers.
- Trade shows: As the key planner and organizer of trade shows, you will oversee product selection, trade show design, sales materials, product information and facilities coordination. Trade shows drive our sales and profitability. We will look to you for your skillful planning and flawless execution at 4 major trade shows each year; two High Point Furniture Markets, CEDIA and CES
- Research: Although we intuitively understand our consumers, we do not have statistical data about them. You will have collected, analyzed, and summarized marketing data and trends to learn more about our end consumer and our market share to help us define new product offerings including size and finish.
- Supplier relationships: We have opportunities to develop relationships with TV and AV component suppliers to build our brands together. You will research which suppliers are most closely aligned with our product and expand those relationships.
- Management: We’ll be counting on you to diplomatically manage outside relationships with vendors including consultants in PR, graphic design, web designers, etc. You’ll also work closely with our internal design team, product development manager and other team members.
Essential Experience and Attributes
Experience
- 10 – 15 years of prior marketing, brand management and trade show experience in small to medium sized entrepreneurial companies.
- Demonstrated success creating comprehensive marketing plan
- Demonstrated success managing multiple complex projects
- Engagement in social media
- Business-to-Consumer marketing
- Knowledge of general office and design software (including but not limited to In-Design, MS Office, FileMaker).

Executive Summary
As BDI Director of International Sales you will be responsible for developing BDI’s relationships with our existing international partners to drive sales, profits and market share. In addition, you will identify potential opportunities with appropriate distributors and/or retail store partners in Europe, Asia and South America to strengthen BDI’s global brand presence.
Primary responsibilities of this position are to
Increase business with existing accounts which includes both Distributers and Retailers
- Meet regularly with top executives at our existing international partners and strategize with them to increase BDI’s presence in their market
- Develop specific annual account plans based on short-, mid- and long-range plans of the account, to be included in BDI’s budget.
- Ensure proper training of appropriate personnel in the features and benefits of BDI’s products
- Develop appropriate marketing materials for presentation of BDI in local markets
- Coordinate logistics and shipping with BDI Operations
- Identify additional markets in Europe, Asia and South America for expansion of our international business
- Develop market research to support identification and penetration of additional key furniture markets in Europe
- Identify the proper distribution model to reach the targeted Retail Stores.
- Develop appropriate “go to market’ strategy and determine resources necessary to achieve goals
- Identity additional potential markets in the Far East and South America
- Represent BDI at international trade shows
Obtain the appropriate resources for market penetration in the target markets
- Assess proper method of reaching targeted retail stores
- Hire and train reps where necessary
- Ensure that Store Managers and Sales Associates are properly trained in all of the features and benefits of BDI’s products
- Manage reps and distributors on an ongoing basis, with appropriate management reporting to the President
- Coordinate efforts between reps and BDI Customer Service
Communicate product needs to/from the international market
- Keep partners informed about upcoming product launches.
- Support the merchandising of our products with appropriate marketing materials
- Provide regular feedback to BDI Product Development on potential products to fit needs in the international markets
The ideal candidate will have the following experience and skill set:
- 7+ years of sales experience in consumer products, working with Sales Agents or Reps to sell direct to Key Retailers or through distributor partners. Consumer electronics or Furniture industry experience required.
- Minimum 5 years of international sales experience working with Sales Reps or distributors in Europe and/or the Far East.
- Strong computer skills and proficient in MS Office.
- Proven track record for delivering strong, consistent sales results and meeting or exceeding performance objectives
- Professional demeanor with strong written and verbal communication skills. Second language a plus.
- Good presentation and negotiation skills
- Concise, accurate, effective communication skills – able to express and defend a point of view, push for a decision and present facts in a convincing way. Excellent written skills.
- Strong aptitude for developing customer-specific tactical plans
- Ability to work independently and make decisions, while maintaining good communications with the rest of the team
- Disciplined and very organized
- Computer proficiency (MS Office).
