Where are BDI product designs manufactured?

BDI’s innovative products are designed and engineered at the BDI corporate headquarters in the Washington, DC suburb of Chantilly, VA. Our products are manufactured with great care at our partner factories in China and Taiwan.

Why might my wood finish appear different than it did in the store?

BDI’s wood finishes feature natural hardwood solids and veneers. Wood is a product of nature and - unlike man-made materials that can be manufactured to strict and consistent specifications - has natural imperfections that are part of its appeal and character. Every piece of wood differs from every other, even when coming from the very same tree. As such, variation in grain, texture and tone should be expected from one panel or piece of furniture to the next. It is this variation that separates natural wood from an engineered product, and variations should be expected as part of the beauty of a real wood finish.

BDI’s Natural Walnut finish is clear-coated and does not include any stains or color modifiers whatsoever. This natural finish will typically change in appearance over time, usually starting out as a medium tone and then becoming darker, more amber over time with exposure to ambient natural light. It can also fade and get much lighter with exposure to direct sunlight. To avoid discolored spots in the wood tone, periodically move any items that are resting on the finished surfaces including lamps, vases, TVs, etc.

Are wood finish samples available?

BDI makes wood samples available through authorized dealers and can supply single samples on request. Please contact your local dealer to view the full range of finish samples.

Can BDI customize a product to my exact specifications?

Unfortunately, BDI does not currently offer customization and cannot accommodate individual requests for size, finish or material modifications.

How do I choose the design that is best for me?

BDI Home Theater Furniture designs are available in a variety of styles and sizes to fit most applications. To narrow your search, please compare dimensions and specifications on all models, or search for the models that are recommended for your TV size and type by viewing our BDI Model Selector. For personalized sales assistance, please visit your nearest BDI dealer who is best equipped to discuss the BDI options that are available to you.

How much weight will a specific model hold?

Each model’s Web page lists BDI’s recommended TV size range and weight capacities; these are somewhat conservative guidelines. With TVs, you generally want to consider the aesthetics of the TV on the stand to see if the unit looks “right” before you worry about the weight. That is, if the desired TV appears top-heavy, or overhangs on each side of the stand, we recommended that you consider a larger-size BDI model. BDI models are sized to accommodate most A/V components (DVD player, A/V Receiver, etc.). Refer to the listed frame opening, shelf depth and shelf capacity to determine if the BDI stand you are considering will accommodate your system. Please contact a BDI Dealer for more detailed product specifications.

What are the specific dimensions of a certain BDI TV stand?

Dimensions such as overall measurements, top and lower shelf capacities, maximum component depth and overall frame opening can be found on each model’s Web page. Click here to compare dimensions on all BDI Home Theater furniture models.

Is the glass tempered?

Yes. All glass used in BDI Home Theater furniture designs is tempered safety glass.

What do I do if a shelf arrives broken or scratched?

Every effort is made to provide you with a well-packaged, high-quality product. If one of your shelves arrives cracked, chipped or otherwise damaged, please contact the Dealer from whom you purchased the product. Please be aware of the prevailing industry standard with regards to scratches and minor imperfections in commercial glass: If the imperfection is not visible to the naked eye from three feet away in regular lighting conditions, then it is considered acceptable.

Can I purchase an additional shelf for my BDI stand?

If you would like to purchase an additional shelf for a BDI stand, please send an email to BDI at . Please specify the exact style and model that you have. We cannot always accommodate these requests, but we will do our best to meet your need.

How much assembly is required?

Most BDI Home Theater Furniture designs ship flat and are ready to assemble (with the exception of our cabinets, which ship almost fully-assembled). All models are engineered to assemble quickly and easily, normally within 30 minutes’ time or less, and most include any required tools.

How do I clean my BDI Home Theater Furniture?

All glass shelves and tops can be cleaned with glass cleaner. Wood and steel parts should be cleaned with a slightly damp (not saturated) clean, cloth towel. If moisture remains, dry the surface with a cloth towel. If needed, a gentle non-abrasive cleanser may be used, but be sure to wipe away all cleaner residue and dry the surface with a cloth towel.

How can I secure my TV to my BDI media furniture?

Select BDI media furniture designs are compatible with the Arena Mount 9970 and/or 9972, both of which enable you to attach most flat-panel TVs via an integrated mounting system. Alternatively, for TVs placed on top of a cabinet, BDI offers a TV Safety Strap which is designed to tether your flat-panel or curved-panel TV to your BDI media cabinet. We began phasing-in TV Safety Straps with our media cabinets in Fall 2015. If your BDI cabinet lacks a TV Safety Strap and you would like one, please contact us at customerservice@bdiusa.com and we will be glad to provide one to you.

What are BDI’s work surfaces made of? How do I clean them?

Our micro-etched black glass tops are cleaned using household glass cleaner and a paper towel or lint-free cloth. Our satin white and wood veneer tops are cleaned with a lightly dampened cloth. For further information on cleaning micro-etched black glass, watch this video.

Does BDI offer custom sizing of any models?

We offer standard sizes, configurations and finishes and do not offer customization.

I bought several models in Natural Walnut finish and they don’t match perfectly. Why is that?

Walnut is a wood species with a greater than average amount of grain and color variation. BDI does not tone, stain or colorize this wood species in our Natural Walnut finish, one of our most popular wood finishes for those who appreciate its natural variation and character.

Can I incorporate a Sequel Peninsula into my Semblance system?

No. Sequel and Semblance share the same finishes yet are unique designs that are not compatible in terms of physical connections or fitment.

Does the Sequel Desk 6001 have an end panel?

No, we offer only the end panel that fits the Sequel Return 6002.

Does the Sequel Return 6002 come with a back panel?

No, but you may use the back panel included with Sequel Desk 6001, as it is the same piece, or you may order the Sequel Back Panel 6009 separately.

What are Semblance shelves, cabinet doors and desks made of?
How do I clean them?

Is there any difference in cost if I order a Semblance package versus piecing together the same setup from individual components?

There is absolutely no cost-advantage in ordering a package versus selecting the same set of components a la carte. BDI presents packages simply to help you visualize the range of possibilities and to make ordering systems quick & easy.

Why must Semblance be attached to the wall via the Wall Bracket?

Semblance is modular and allows you to build it to fit your unique space or application. Installing the Wall Bracket(s) ensures that your fully built system will not sway from side to side and will remain rigid during use and even after you reconfigure it one or more times.

Do single- and double-width Semblance cabinets have IR-compatible doors?

No. Because these cabinets are intended for general storage use and are not sized or ventilated to support electronic components, their doors are not intended to support remote control use. NOTE: Mirage 8237 is a home theater cabinet that DOES include IR-friendly doors.

I like Semblance 5412-PF, but I want the Peninsula to be on the left of the configuration rather than the right as shown. Can I do that?

Yes, definitely. Because Semblance is fully modular, individual components can be repositioned easily, so you are not forced to use your system in only the configuration shown.

Can I incorporate a SEQUEL Peninsula into my Semblance system?

No. Sequel and Semblance share the same finishes yet are unique designs that are not compatible in terms of physical connections or fitment.
