Home Is Where The Bar Is
Monday in the office, a Tuesday morning flight followed by two days of meetings and living out of a suitcase. Then, a late flight home Wednesday night, and wrapping up the week trying to get caught up on the day-to-day tasks of doing business in today’s non-stop world.
Sound familiar? If you're a business executive, you can probably relate. And like most working Americans, after a hectic week, your favorite activity may be nothing more than relaxing and having the chance to spend time with family and friends from the comfort of your own home. Not surprisingly, a growing number of consumers feel the same way.
For so many these days, spending Saturday and Sunday at home doesn’t just mean a weekend full of chores and lounging around. It means movie nights with the family or having friends and colleagues over for dinner and drinks. It means trading cover charges, large crowds, and big restaurant checks for a much more intimate and comfortable setting where you get to pick the guests, music, menu, and even the décor.
This trend even has a name. In the home furnishings industry, it’s been coined “home-tainment,” and the statistics indicate this movement may be here to stay. According to a survey from the wine app Vivino, 47% of Millennials and 61% of Generation X and Baby Boomers say they would rather drink and entertain at home than at a social gathering, bar, or winery.
This overwhelming shift in where we prefer to spend our personal time doesn’t stop with cocktails. If you can’t remember the last time you went to a movie theater, you aren’t alone. Another study shows that ticket sales have steadily dropped 21% since 2002. You can thank widely accessible and affordable theater-quality video and audio components, along with streaming devices and technologies for that. Why leave home when it is so easy to access the latest movies and TV series with the touch of button – all from the comfort of your living room?
With more people entertaining at home, we at BDI saw this as an opportunity to offer products that make it easier for them to enjoy life right where they love to be. That’s why our incredible team of designers continuously create sophisticated and functional entertainment furniture that not only have innovative features, but are beautiful in any home environment.
From our bar category, the award-winning Corridor Bar offers a rich, full-featured stand-alone bar option. Boasting beautiful double louvered doors that open fully on 180-degree hinges, a durable, easy-to-clean surface and ample storage for everything from wine and spirits, to stemware and bar accessories, the Corridor Bar is the perfect addition to any entertainment space.

We will continue to work diligently, while always thinking ahead for our BDI consumers, and helping them solve those design and function challenges. We are excited to continually introduce exceptional designs that will help everyone find beautiful ways to entertain at home.
