General Questions

Does BDI sell directly to the public?

BDI products are only available for purchase through authorized retailers. Visit the Retailer Locator to find a BDI Retailer(s) near you, including online retail partners.

What are BDI’s retail prices?

All retail prices are set by the individual BDI Retailer. Please contact your local retail location to inquire about the most updated pricing.

Why don't you show prices on the website?

As the manufacturer, BDI does not sell directly to consumers; instead, we sell to a network of authorized home furnishing retailers. Although we set a suggested retail price for our products, our retail partners can (and often do) sell them for less, which is why we recommend contacting a retailer near you or doing an online search.

What is BDI’s warranty?

BDI warrants products sold through authorized retailers only. Click here to read complete warranty information.

Whom should I contact if I have a problem or question about my BDI design?

If your purchase arrives physically damaged, please contact the retail location where you purchased the item. If you are missing parts or hardware, please Contact Us and we will address your request within two working days. Please be specific with the following information, some of which can be obtained from your BDI Assembly Instructions):

  1. Style and Model of the design purchased
  2. Name of the BDI Retailer from whom you made your purchase
  3. The name and part number of the missing component (Please reference the Parts List on the Assembly Instructions)

Where can I get a copy of the BDI Assembly Instructions?

Current BDI designs include a link where you can download a copy of the assembly instructions on their BDI website product page. If you require Assembly Instructions for a discontinued design that is not currently shown online, please Contact Us and we will email one to you.

Where are BDI product designs manufactured?

BDI’s innovative products are designed and engineered at the BDI corporate headquarters in the Washington, D.C. suburb of Chantilly, VA. Our products are manufactured with great care at partner factories located around the world.

Why might my wood finish appear different than it did in the store?

BDI’s wood finishes feature natural hardwood solids and veneers. Wood is a product of nature and - unlike man-made materials that can be manufactured to strict and consistent specifications - has natural imperfections that are part of its appeal and character. Every piece of wood differs from every other, even when coming from the very same tree. As such, variation in grain, texture and tone should be expected from one panel or piece of furniture to the next. It is this variation that separates natural wood from an engineered product, and variations should be expected as part of the beauty of a real wood finish.

BDI’s Natural Walnut finish is clear-coated and does not include any stains or color modifiers whatsoever. This natural finish will typically change in appearance over time, usually starting out as a medium tone and then becoming darker, more amber over time with exposure to ambient natural light. It can also fade and get much lighter with exposure to direct sunlight. To avoid discolored spots in the wood tone, periodically move any items that are resting on the finished surfaces including lamps, vases, TVs, etc.

How do I receive wood finish sample?

BDI does not provide physical wood samples, but we are happy to provide printed swatch cards that are representative samples of the wood finish that you can expect to receive. To order finish swatch cards, click here. These printed cards are for illustration purposes only.

Please Note: Wood is a natural product, affected by weather, climate, soil, light, and natural growth patterns. Variations in wood patterns and colors are to be expected from one piece to the next, and will even vary from one panel to another. It is this organic characteristic of natural wood that ensures that each design is a unique work of art. Your actual finish is likely to vary somewhat from what you observe on BDI’s website or on an actual finish sample. For the most accurate representation, please visit a BDI retailer

BDI’s satin etched glass is a unique material, with a smooth, soft touch and a resilient and forgiving finish. Visit this page for help with general maintenance and cleaning.

Is BDI Prop 65 compliant?

Media Furniture

How do I choose the design that is best for me?

BDI Home Theater Furniture designs are available in a variety of styles and sizes to fit most applications. To narrow your search, please compare dimensions and specifications on all models, or search for the models that are recommended for your TV size and type by viewing the various options we offer for Media Cabinets. For personalized sales assistance, please visit your nearest BDI Retailer who is best equipped to discuss the BDI options that are available to you, and that best meet your needs.

How much weight will a specific model hold?

Each model’s product page on the website lists BDI’s recommended TV size range and weight capacities; these are somewhat conservative guidelines. With TVs, you generally want to consider the aesthetics of the TV on the stand to see if the unit looks “right” before you worry about the weight. That is, if the desired TV appears top-heavy, or overhangs on each side of the stand, we recommend that you consider a larger-sized media console. BDI models are sized to accommodate most A/V components (Blu-ray player, A/V Receiver, etc.). Refer to the listed frame opening, shelf depth and shelf capacity to determine if the BDI TV stand you are considering will accommodate your system. Please contact a BDI Retailer for more detailed product specifications.

What are the specific dimensions of a certain BDI TV stand?

Dimensions such as overall measurements, top and lower shelf capacities, maximum component depth and overall frame opening can be found on each model’s website product page.

Is the glass tempered?

Yes. All glass used in BDI Home Theater furniture designs is tempered safety glass.

What do I do if a shelf arrives broken or scratched?

Every effort is made to provide you with a well-packaged, high-quality product. If one of your shelves arrives cracked, chipped or otherwise damaged, please contact the retail location where you purchased the product. Please be aware of the prevailing industry standard with regards to scratches and minor imperfections in commercial glass: If the imperfection is not visible to the naked eye from three feet away in regular lighting conditions, then it is considered acceptable.

Can I purchase an additional shelf for my BDI stand?

If you would like to purchase an additional shelf for a BDI stand, please Contact Us. Please specify the exact style and model that you own. We cannot always accommodate these requests, but we will do our best to meet your needs.

How much assembly is required?

Most BDI Home Theater Furniture designs ship flat and are ready to assemble (with the exception of our cabinets, which ship almost fully-assembled). All models are engineered to assemble quickly and easily, normally within 30 minutes’ time or less, and most include all necessary tools.

How do I clean my BDI Home Theater Furniture?

All glass shelves and tops can be cleaned with glass cleaner. For tips on how best to clean and refresh our satin-etched glass tops, you can watch this helpful video

Wood and steel parts should be cleaned with a slightly damp (not saturated) clean, cloth towel. If moisture remains, dry the surface with a cloth towel. If needed, a gentle non-abrasive cleanser may be used, but be sure to wipe away all cleaner residue and dry the surface with a cloth towel.

How can I secure my TV to my BDI media furniture?

BDI offers a TV Safety Strap which is designed to tether your flat-panel or curved-panel TV to your BDI media cabinet to prevent accidental tipping.

We began phasing-in TV Safety Straps with our media cabinets in Fall 2015. If your BDI cabinet lacks a TV Safety Strap and you would like one, please Contact Us and we will be happy to provide one to you.

Office

What are BDI’s work surfaces made of? How do I clean them?

Our satin-etched glass tops are cleaned using household glass cleaner and a paper towel or lint-free cloth. Our satin white and wood veneer tops are cleaned with a lightly dampened cloth. For further information on how to clean and refresh our satin-etched tempered glass tops, watch this video.

I'm having trouble with my BDI standing desk. Are there any online resources available?

If you're encountering a problem with your BDI standing desk, visit our helpful online troubleshooting guide for step-by-step instructions for addressing the most common causes. You can also download the instruction manual for your individual model by visiting its product page. Lastly, you can watch this video for basic keypad programming and reset instructions.

Does BDI offer custom sizing of any models?

We offer standard sizes, configurations, and finishes and do not offer customization.

I bought several models in Natural Walnut finish, and they don’t match perfectly. Why is that?

Walnut is a wood species with a greater than average amount of grain and color variation. BDI does not tone, stain or colorize this wood species in our Natural Walnut finish, which is one of our most popular wood finishes for those who appreciate its natural variation and character.
